Pakistan Navy Rescues 18 Crew Members from Merchant Vessel in Arabian Sea

The Pakistan Navy successfully rescued 18 crew members, including foreign nationals, from a merchant vessel in the North Arabian Sea following a distress signal. The operation was carried out by PNS HUNAIN after receiving the emergency call from the merchant ship Gold Autumn, which was located approximately 200 nautical miles (around 370 kilometers) off Pakistan’s coastline.

The naval team provided critical medical assistance, helped extinguish fires onboard, conducted damage assessments, and ensured the safe evacuation of all crew members. The rescued individuals included nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia. They were transported to Karachi for medical treatment and subsequent repatriation to their home countries.

In a significant development, this humanitarian mission highlights the Pakistan Navy’s unwavering commitment to being the first responder in maritime emergencies within its Area of Responsibility. The operation underscores the Navy’s dedication to safeguarding lives at sea regardless of nationality.

Meanwhile, last month the Pakistan Navy initiated Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr aimed at protecting national shipping and maritime trade amid escalating regional security concerns and potential threats to vital sea lanes. Launched on March 9, the operation focuses on ensuring the uninterrupted flow of national energy supplies and securing the Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs).

Alongside its defense duties, the Pakistan Navy continues to actively engage in humanitarian efforts to protect life at sea, reinforcing its role as a guardian of the country’s maritime borders and a provider of emergency assistance in the region.
