Pakistan and Egypt have initiated the Thunder-II bilateral military exercise, a two-week program designed to strengthen counter-terrorism skills and deepen strategic defense cooperation between the two countries.
The exercise began on April 6, 2026, at the Special Operations School in Cherat, Pakistan. The opening ceremony featured elite units from Pakistan’s Special Services Group (SSG) alongside the Egyptian Special Forces.
In a significant development, the Commandant of the Special Operations School presided over the inauguration, highlighting the enduring military partnership between Islamabad and Cairo.
The main goal of Thunder-II is to enhance the professional capabilities of the participating forces through intensive joint training. By recreating complex operational scenarios, the exercise enables both special forces to align their tactics and improve interoperability.
Emphasizing contemporary counter-terrorism methods, the collaboration ensures that both militaries remain prepared to address emerging security challenges in their regions.
Beyond tactical improvements, the exercise provides a crucial forum for exchanging expertise and experiences, reinforcing the strong diplomatic and defense ties between Pakistan and Egypt. This cooperation reflects a shared dedication to maintaining regional stability.
As the drills continue, the knowledge and camaraderie developed during Thunder-II are expected to strengthen the professional and fraternal relations between the two armed forces.
