PM Shehbaz Unveils 55 Electric Vehicles for Islamabad Traffic Police

In a significant development aimed at modernizing urban transportation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the provision of 55 electric vehicles (EVs) to the Islamabad Traffic Police. The announcement was made during a formal ceremony held in Islamabad, highlighting the government’s commitment to adopting sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions for the capital’s traffic management challenges.

The initiative, which began several months ago, focuses on deploying these state-of-the-art electric vehicles on major city roads to improve traffic flow and efficiency. At the event, the Prime Minister received a detailed briefing from the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, who outlined the project’s objectives and progress. Notably, 15 of the EVs have already been handed over to the traffic police, with the remaining vehicles expected to join the fleet shortly.

Each electric vehicle boasts an impressive range of 350 to 400 kilometers on a full charge, with fast charging capabilities allowing a recharge in 60 to 90 minutes, while standard charging takes between 6 to 8 hours. This advancement not only promises to enhance operational efficiency but also offers significant cost savings. Compared to traditional petrol-powered vehicles, each EV is projected to save approximately Rs550,000 monthly, enabling the recovery of the initial investment within 13 to 14 months.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that this move reflects the government’s broader vision for sustainable urban development and environmental responsibility. By integrating electric vehicles into the traffic police fleet, Islamabad is taking a proactive step toward reducing carbon emissions and promoting greener urban mobility solutions. This project aligns with global trends toward electrification in public services and sets a precedent for other cities in the country to follow.
