Sindh Declares April 5-6 Holidays for Christian Easter Celebrations

The Sindh government has officially declared April 6 a holiday for Christian employees in Karachi and other areas of the province, enabling them to observe Easter without work commitments. In a significant development, April 5 and 6, Sunday and Monday, have been designated as official holidays for the Christian community throughout Sindh.

This decision, endorsed by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Haider Shah, ensures that Christian staff can fully participate in Easter, one of their most important religious festivals, without professional obligations. Consequently, all government and semi-government offices, including local councils and corporations, will remain closed on these two days.

The holiday specifically applies to Christian employees working in provincial departments, autonomous bodies, corporations, and local government councils, providing them the opportunity to engage in Easter traditions alongside their families and communities. This move reflects the Sindh government’s continued dedication to promoting religious harmony and inclusivity, sending a clear message of respect toward minority groups.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the festival, authorities across Pakistan have intensified security arrangements. Thousands of churches and Good Friday events are under close surveillance with advanced CCTV systems and special security protocols. Local officials are conducting comprehensive inspections to guarantee public safety during the celebrations.

The government has underscored the importance of maintaining interfaith peace while allowing the Christian community to celebrate Easter freely and securely.
