Pakistan Warns India of Stronger Response Ahead of Pahalgam Attack Anniversary

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif reiterated the country’s commitment to peace and regional stability while cautioning India that Pakistan is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty with a rapid and resolute response to any threat. His comments were made in reaction to a recent warning from India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who cautioned Pakistan against any “misadventure” amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.

In a message posted on X, Asif emphasized to his Indian counterpart that the notion of a war between two nuclear-armed neighbors is unimaginable and would lead to severe consequences. This exchange comes as the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack approaches, an event that escalated tensions between the two countries last year.

In May of the previous year, India launched an unprovoked attack on Pakistan following an assault on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). New Delhi accused Islamabad of orchestrating the deadly Pahalgam attack without providing evidence, a claim Pakistan denied while urging for a neutral investigation. Subsequently, India carried out missile strikes inside Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of several civilians and security personnel.

Pakistan responded decisively by downing seven Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft, destroying dozens of drones, and neutralizing an S-400 defense system. The conflict between the two nuclear powers concluded on May 10 with a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States.

Asif criticized the repeated hostile rhetoric from India, describing it as a sign of strategic anxiety rather than strength, especially as the anniversary of what he called a “staged false flag operation” in Pahalgam nears. He asserted that the episode failed international scrutiny and revealed India’s dependence on manufactured crises.

He further stated that such provocative threats are part of a predictable pattern aimed at externalizing internal weaknesses and provoking escalation through unsubstantiated allegations for political gain. The Defence Minister warned that history shows miscalculations have serious consequences, recalling the recent conflict as a reminder.

“Marka-e-Haq remains fresh in our minds. The next time, our response will be even more forceful and decisive,” Asif declared. He underscored Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace and regional stability, while affirming its absolute resolve to defend sovereignty with swift, measured, and decisive action.

Addressing Rajnath Singh directly, Asif reiterated that the illusion of space for war between two nuclear states is inconceivable and would have drastic repercussions. He advised India to focus on addressing the growing unease within its own strategic and diplomatic environment instead.
