In a tragic yet heroic incident on March 6, a police officer lost his life while courageously confronting armed robbers attempting to loot a bank on Warsak Road in Peshawar. The Additional Sub-Inspector (SHO) Bahar Ali engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with the criminals at a bank located in the Pir Bala area. Despite being critically injured during the confrontation, he fought valiantly to prevent the robbery from succeeding.

The attackers opened fire from both inside and outside the bank premises, creating a chaotic and dangerous situation. SHO Bahar Ali sustained multiple gunshot wounds—five bullets struck him during the intense firefight. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he received medical treatment for nearly a week. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries, marking a profound loss for the police force and the community he served.

The funeral prayers for the martyred officer were held at the Peshawar Police Lines, drawing a large gathering of law enforcement officials and community members who came to pay their respects. High-ranking officials, including Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed and Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed, were present to honor the fallen hero. A solemn guard of honour was presented by a contingent of police personnel, symbolizing the deep respect and gratitude for SHO Bahar Ali’s sacrifice in the line of duty.

This incident underscores the increasing risks faced by police officers across the region as they combat rising criminal activities. The bravery displayed by SHO Bahar Ali serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers inherent in maintaining law and order, especially in volatile areas where armed robberies and violent crimes have become more frequent.

Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, a separate episode of courage unfolded when a young girl confronted an armed robber during a street dacoity. The event took place in the Mian Qutbuddin neighbourhood under the jurisdiction of Waris Khan Police Station. Two sisters were returning home after shopping when they were targeted by a gun-wielding criminal attempting to snatch their belongings.

Despite the threat, the sisters resisted the robbery, which prompted the assailant to open fire. Thankfully, the bullets missed their targets and struck the ground, leaving no one physically harmed. One of the sisters, Mahnoor Usman, displayed remarkable bravery by attempting to overpower the attacker during the struggle. Although the robber managed to assault her and escape with three mobile phones and a purse, Mahnoor’s quick reaction in chasing him and raising an alarm helped alert nearby pedestrians and potentially prevented further harm.

These incidents highlight the courage and resilience of ordinary citizens and law enforcement officers alike in the face of growing criminal threats. They also emphasize the urgent need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance to ensure public safety in urban areas across Pakistan.
