In an unusual and troubling development in Karachi’s Landhi area, a citizen’s motorcycle was reportedly stolen from within the premises of a local police station. The victim, who appeared in a video statement, recounted the events leading up to the theft. He explained that he had been called to the police station by the complaint cell in-charge to address a financial dispute. During his visit, he provided his statement in front of Sub-Inspector Nadeem and the complaint cell in-charge. However, after spending approximately two hours inside the station, he was shocked to discover that his motorcycle had vanished from the parking area upon his return.
Immediately after noticing the disappearance, the individual contacted the “Madadgar 15” helpline to report the theft. This helpline is a dedicated service aimed at assisting citizens in distress and ensuring prompt police response. Meanwhile, police officials have confirmed that they have launched an inquiry into the matter and assured that a formal case will be registered based on the complaint lodged by the victim. Adding to the gravity of the situation, a similar case was reported recently from Karachi’s Korangi police station. In that incident, a motorcycle was also stolen from inside the station’s premises. The affected individual stated that he had arrived at the police station with a relative around 10:30 pm for an investigation. Upon returning to the parking area after their meeting, they found the motorcycle missing. Although the Korangi police filed a complaint and promised to identify the culprit through CCTV footage, it was later revealed that the cameras at the Korangi police station have been non-functional for several months, severely hampering any investigation efforts.
These incidents highlight a troubling pattern of security lapses within police stations in Karachi, undermining public trust in law enforcement agencies. The malfunctioning or absence of surveillance equipment, combined with the thefts occurring inside supposedly secure areas, points to the urgent need for reforms and stricter oversight.
