Sindh Government Boosts Security After Deadly Protest Outside US Consulate Karachi

The Sindh government has escalated security protocols across Karachi in response to a violent protest that unfolded outside the United States Consulate. An official directive from the Sindh Home Department has placed the entire province on high alert, emphasizing the urgent need to protect foreign diplomatic missions and personnel. This move comes amid growing concerns over the safety of consulates following the recent unrest.

In the notification, the Sindh Home Department instructed law enforcement agencies to intensify security arrangements around all foreign missions within the city. Police forces, supported by paramilitary Rangers, have been ordered to increase their vigilance and maintain a robust presence to deter any further disturbances. Enhanced patrolling has been mandated around consulate premises to ensure the protection of diplomatic staff and sensitive installations, which are considered critical for maintaining international relations and security.

The decision to strengthen security measures follows a tragic incident during the protest outside the US Consulate, where clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement resulted in multiple casualties. The Civil Hospital Karachi confirmed that nine individuals lost their lives due to injuries sustained during the confrontation. In total, 45 people were admitted to the hospital, many suffering from bullet wounds, highlighting the severity of the violence that erupted.

Among the deceased were identified victims including Kazim, Mubarak, Kazim Abbas, Adeel, Sajid Ali, Khawar Abbas, Muhammad Ali, along with one unidentified person. The hospital’s trauma center reported that 36 others were also brought in with serious injuries, ranging in age from 18 to 50 years. The nature of the wounds indicates that live ammunition was used during the clashes, underscoring the intensity of the confrontation between protesters and security forces.

The unrest reportedly began shortly after news circulated regarding the alleged assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel strike on Iran. This information sparked outrage among demonstrators who gathered in large numbers near the consulate, chanting slogans and attempting to breach the consulate’s perimeter. Police responded with tear gas and baton charges in an effort to disperse the crowd, but the situation escalated when some protesters managed to break through the main gate and enter the outer compound of the consulate.

Authorities have emphasized that the heightened security measures are precautionary, aimed at preventing any further escalation and ensuring the safety of diplomatic missions in Karachi. The incident has drawn attention to the fragile security environment surrounding foreign missions in Pakistan’s largest city, prompting officials to remain on high alert. Moving forward, continuous monitoring and strict enforcement of security protocols will be crucial to avoid similar incidents and maintain public order.
