In a significant move underscoring the gravity of the security situation along Pakistan’s western frontier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a high-profile visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Friday. During this visit, he received an extensive briefing from the top military leadership about the current developments and challenges on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The prime minister’s engagement reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining national security and addressing the persistent threat posed by militant groups operating in the region.

Emphasizing a firm stance, Prime Minister Sharif conveyed a message of zero tolerance towards the alliance between the Afghan Taliban regime and various militant factions targeting Pakistan. He categorically condemned their hostile actions, describing them as unacceptable provocations against the country’s sovereignty. This strong rhetoric highlights Islamabad’s resolve to counter any attempts to destabilize Pakistan through cross-border aggression.

During the briefing, the prime minister lauded the professionalism and preparedness of Pakistan’s armed forces, led by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who have been vigilant in safeguarding the nation’s borders. Sharif reiterated the armed forces’ unwavering capability to defend Pakistan against any form of aggression, praising their swift and effective response to recent cross-border attacks. He also expressed solidarity with the military, stating that the entire nation stands united behind its defenders in protecting the homeland.

This visit came in the wake of intense cross-border exchanges of fire between Pakistani troops and Afghan Taliban militants. These clashes followed a major military operation conducted by Pakistan, which reportedly resulted in the elimination of 274 Taliban fighters. The operation also destroyed 115 tanks, armored vehicles, artillery units, and 73 border posts, significantly weakening militant infrastructure along the frontier.

Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director-General, Lieutenant-General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, had briefed the media on Operation Ghazab lil-Haq. He explained that the prime minister was informed in detail about the operation shortly before the press conference. The strikes, executed during the night of February 21–22, targeted militant hideouts after the Afghan Taliban forces initiated attacks at 53 points across 15 sectors along the border. The ISPR chief underscored that Pakistan’s response was decisive and visible to the international community.

Lieutenant-General Chaudhry further accused the Afghan Taliban regime of providing support to militants responsible for attacks inside Pakistan. He revealed that following the operation, 18 Taliban posts have come under Pakistani control, and over 400 militants sustained injuries. The military also carried out air strikes at 22 locations in key Afghan provinces, including Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, Nangarhar, and Khost. These strikes targeted groups identified as “Fitna al-Hindustan” and “Fitna al-Khawarij,” which are linked to militant activities against Pakistan.

During his GHQ visit, Prime Minister Sharif reiterated the government’s firm position against the collaboration between the Afghan Taliban regime and militant groups. He stressed that any hostile actions against Pakistan would not be tolerated under any circumstances. The prime minister’s remarks underscored the importance of a coordinated and robust defense strategy to counter these threats effectively.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the armed forces for their professionalism and dedication in repelling cross-border attacks. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the military continues to demonstrate resilience and vigilance, ensuring the safety and security of the nation’s borders. The prime minister’s visit and statements send a clear message of unity and strength, reflecting the country’s determination to confront and overcome security challenges posed by militant elements across the border.
