In a significant stride towards modernizing Pakistan’s aerial defense capabilities, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, the Chief of the Air Staff, announced a major recalibration of the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) Operational Doctrine. This transformation has led to the creation of a unique, home-grown multi-domain Kill Chain, marking a pivotal advancement in the country’s defense strategy. The announcement was made during a ceremony at Air Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where the PAF also observed the seventh anniversary of Operation Swift Retort, a landmark event that showcased Pakistan’s resolve and professionalism in the face of aggression.
The commemoration of Operation Swift Retort serves as a reminder of Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty. Seven years ago, an adversary misjudged Pakistan’s determination by launching a covert attack under the cover of darkness. However, the PAF’s swift and measured response in broad daylight not only neutralized the threat but also reinstated a credible deterrence against a numerically superior foe. This operation remains a testament to the PAF’s capability to respond decisively while maintaining a disciplined and calibrated approach to modern air warfare.
During his address, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu emphasized that Pakistan remains a responsible nation, steadfast in its desire for peace but equally prepared to defend its honor and territorial integrity. He highlighted the increasingly complex global and regional security landscape, which demands continuous evolution in military tactics and technology. Despite facing fiscal challenges since March 2021, the PAF has aggressively pursued a comprehensive modernization agenda. This includes the induction of cutting-edge combat and support systems, with a strong focus on indigenization to reduce dependency on foreign technology.
One of the cornerstones of this modernization drive is the development and integration of advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Electronic Warfare capabilities, as well as space and cyber assets. These elements collectively form the backbone of the newly established multi-domain Kill Chain, a sophisticated network designed to synchronize operations across various warfare domains. This indigenous system enhances the PAF’s ability to detect, track, and neutralize threats with unprecedented precision and speed, setting a new standard in Pakistan’s defense apparatus.
Looking ahead, the Air Chief recalled the events of Marka-e-Haq in May 2025, when Pakistan’s sovereignty was once again challenged. In response, the PAF executed full-spectrum multi-domain operations for the first time, demonstrating the effectiveness of the newly developed Kill Chain. These operations involved the downing of several advanced enemy platforms, including Rafale, SU-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, MiG-29 fighter jets, and multiple Unmanned Aerial Systems. Additionally, the PAF carried out deep strikes within hostile territory and successfully neutralized sophisticated S-400 air defense systems along with their Command and Control Centers, showcasing the lethal precision and reach of Pakistan’s air power.
Reaffirming the PAF’s dedication to national security, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu underscored that the force will continue to be a symbol of national pride. The PAF is committed to maintaining credible deterrence and upholding a vigilant yet responsible defense posture. This commitment ensures that Pakistan remains prepared to counter any threats to its sovereignty while striving to maintain peace and stability in the region.
