Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has voiced deep concern over the growing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, urging the Islamic world to take a proactive role in mediating the dispute. Highlighting the critical nature of the current situation, he emphasized the urgent need for dialogue and reconciliation to prevent further deterioration of relations between the two neighboring Muslim countries.
In a detailed statement, Naeem-ur-Rehman criticized the Pakistani government for its reluctance to engage in comprehensive national consultations during this crucial period. He called for an immediate convening of a joint parliamentary session that includes all relevant stakeholders, underscoring that such inclusive dialogue is essential to formulate a unified national strategy. The JI chief warned that without collective efforts, the escalating tensions could spiral into a broader conflict, adversely affecting millions of people living on both sides of the border.
He stressed that safeguarding Pakistan’s security and defense remains paramount, especially considering the country’s population of over 250 million citizens. Naeem-ur-Rehman pointed out that these strained relations come at a time when geopolitical dynamics in the region are shifting, particularly with the strengthening ties between India and Israel in Tel Aviv. He cautioned that these developments could have far-reaching consequences for the Islamic world, potentially destabilizing the region further.
Addressing the Afghan leadership directly, the JI chief urged them to reconsider their stance and recognize that India should not be viewed as a friendly neighbor. He highlighted that ongoing hostilities between Pakistan and Afghanistan ultimately undermine the interests of both nations and the broader Muslim community. Furthermore, he noted that the United States appears to be seeking pretexts for potential action against Iran, while the conflict in Gaza is being exploited to divert international attention from other pressing issues.
In addition to calling for restraint from Afghan authorities, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman appealed to senior Islamic scholars worldwide to step forward and facilitate peace efforts. He also extended an invitation to influential countries such as China, Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia to actively engage in restoring normalcy between Pakistan and Afghanistan, recalling their successful mediation efforts in the past. The JI leader warned that attempts to sabotage the defense cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are driven by certain powers aiming to weaken Islamic unity and regional solidarity.
Highlighting the recent Operation ‘Ghazab lil Haq’, which delivered a significant setback to Afghan aggression, Naeem-ur-Rehman emphasized the importance of maintaining a firm yet diplomatic approach. He reiterated that any actions isolating Afghanistan from the Islamic world or benefiting adversarial forces would be detrimental to regional peace. Ultimately, the Jamaat-e-Islami chief’s call serves as a reminder that fostering dialogue and cooperation among Muslim nations is crucial to overcoming current challenges and ensuring long-term stability in South Asia.
