On February 26, 2026, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially sanctioned a groundbreaking policy initiative named “One Punjab, One Standard,” which aims to establish uniform standards for public infrastructure and civic amenities throughout the province. This new directive seeks to bring cohesion and consistency to the design and development of urban spaces, ensuring that every city and town in Punjab adheres to a common framework for infrastructure quality and aesthetics.

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting convened by the Chief Minister, where senior government officials and urban planners gathered to discuss the formation of an independent authority responsible for overseeing the standardisation process and urban development strategies. The meeting culminated in an agreement to set up a dedicated unit focused exclusively on standardisation and design, which will be tasked with supervising the rollout of uniform development models across Punjab’s diverse municipalities.

Officials provided a detailed briefing on the policy’s scope, revealing plans to draft a comprehensive design manual that will serve as the blueprint for all public infrastructure projects. This manual will cover a wide array of elements, including roads, green belts, signage, footpaths, roadside kiosks, and small commercial cabins, ensuring that these features maintain a consistent look and feel province-wide. Additionally, the policy mandates standardized designs for essential public facilities such as schools, hospitals, bus stops, and other government buildings, which will collectively contribute to a more organized and visually appealing urban environment.

the government, the introduction of these uniform standards is expected to significantly enhance urban planning efforts, promote visual harmony, and improve the overall delivery of public services in Punjab’s cities. The Chief Minister emphasized that the policy’s ultimate goal is to transform every urban center in the province into an attractive, well-structured, and easily navigable space that reflects a unified identity.

During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the importance of consistent infrastructure and road furniture in reinforcing the unique character and aesthetic appeal of Punjab’s cities. She expressed confidence that this initiative would not only elevate the quality of public spaces but also foster a stronger sense of pride among residents by presenting a cohesive urban image.

In a lighter yet relatable moment, the Chief Minister was spotted preparing tea at a roadside stall during her journey to Murree via the Murree Expressway. This brief stop was captured and widely circulated on social media, showcasing her connection with everyday citizens and her hands-on approach to governance. The incident resonated with many, reinforcing her image as a leader who remains grounded despite her high office.
