Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday, June 15, to observe the moon of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH. The session will take place after Maghrib prayers at Iqbal Hall, located within the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, under the leadership of committee chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad.
This moon sighting is crucial as it marks the beginning of the new Islamic year and sets the dates for religious observances during the first month of the Islamic calendar. The committee’s decision will guide the nationwide observance of Muharram.
In a significant development, the central meeting in Lahore will bring together religious scholars, meteorologists, and other committee members to examine moon-sighting reports submitted from various parts of the country. After thorough verification of testimonies, the committee is expected to announce the official start of Muharram 1448 AH.
Meanwhile, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will hold concurrent meetings at their respective locations to gather and evaluate moon-sighting evidence. Notably, the Islamabad Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene simultaneously at Kohsar Block in Islamabad.
Reports collected by these zonal committees will be forwarded to the central body, which holds the authority to make the final declaration regarding the commencement of Muharram 1448 AH.
