In a significant development on Sunday, a local court in Lahore acquitted Pakistani social media influencer Nadeem Mubarak, popularly known as “Nadeem Nani Wala,” in a criminal case concerning allegations of obstructing a public servant during duty.
Mubarak had been detained by police in the Defense C area following a heated confrontation with a traffic warden in Lahore’s upscale Defense locality. Subsequently, authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) accusing him of interfering in official state matters and displaying aggressive behavior towards a public official performing their duties.
However, during proceedings at the Cantonment Court, the presiding judicial magistrate reviewed the police’s initial findings and concluded there was insufficient evidence to uphold the criminal charges against Mubarak, leading to his discharge from the case.
Nani Wala is one of Pakistan’s most prominent and polarizing digital creators, boasting a massive audience of over 14 million followers across YouTube and TikTok. He initially gained popularity through lighthearted comedic vlogs and sketches featuring his grandmother (Nani), a unique family dynamic that resonated strongly with local viewers and became his signature brand identity.
While his viral content has brought him considerable commercial success, making him one of the country’s top-earning digital creators, Nani Wala has frequently been embroiled in controversies and clashes with law enforcement. Notably, he was previously arrested by Lahore police for using an illegal personalized license plate reading “IK 804,” a reference linked to the imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan, on his luxury vehicle.
His social media presence often includes widely publicized disputes with other major Pakistani internet personalities such as “Ducky Bhai” and Rajab Butt. Critics frequently claim these conflicts are staged or exaggerated to boost viewer engagement.
During the court hearing, his legal team argued that the traffic incident had been disproportionately escalated due to his celebrity status. Following the magistrate’s decision, Mubarak was allowed to leave the court without any charges.
