The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) is broadening its outreach for the recently initiated public awareness campaign, “Safai Ke Safeer” (ambassadors of cleanliness), by involving notable figures from diverse sectors of society. This campaign is designed to encourage responsible waste disposal and motivate citizens to actively contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
In a significant development, Aamir Hazari, a member of the Dawoodi Bohra community’s international Nazafat organisation focused on cleanliness and greenery, has joined the initiative as a “Safai Ke Safeer.” Hazari is well-known for his hands-on efforts in environmental protection and organic waste composting. He has been instrumental at the community level in converting organic waste into compost, advocating eco-friendly lifestyles, and raising awareness about sustainable waste management and cleanliness.
His contributions are considered vital in advancing sustainable environmental practices and community-led cleanliness projects. Demonstrating his dedication, Hazari starts his day early by cleaning his surroundings and promoting responsible civic habits. He creatively repurposes discarded flex banners collected from roadsides into plant pots, integrates processed paper waste into composting, and nurtures plants grown from seeds for plantation drives across various city islands and neighborhoods, thereby fostering a greener urban landscape.
Commenting on his appointment, Aamir Hazari expressed, “Being named a Safai Ke Safeer is a great honour. Maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility, not just that of any single institution. If every individual takes care of cleanliness in their area, our city can truly become clean, green, and healthy.”
Meanwhile, SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani congratulated Hazari on his nomination and lauded the Dawoodi Bohra community for its exemplary commitment to social service, discipline, cleanliness, and welfare activities. He noted that the community’s collective efforts serve as a benchmark for promoting civic responsibility and environmental consciousness. Nizamani added that Hazari’s involvement would further enhance the impact of the “Safai Ke Safeer” campaign.
He reaffirmed SSWMB’s dedication to transforming Karachi into a clean and healthy city through public engagement, social awareness, and shared accountability, emphasizing the crucial role of communities and socially responsible individuals in achieving sustainable cleanliness.
