PMD Warns of Heatwave in Sindh; Karachi to Experience Hot Weather

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several districts in Sindh, forecasting unusually high temperatures across the region. Meanwhile, Karachi is expected to experience hot and dry weather over the coming days.

Most parts of Sindh are predicted to endure hot to very hot and dry conditions, with central and northern districts remaining under the heatwave’s influence until May 3. Areas such as Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Sanghar, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur are anticipated to be particularly affected.

Daytime temperatures in these districts could soar 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. The PMD has advised residents—especially children, women, and the elderly—to take necessary precautions, including avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours.

The advisory also recommends increasing water intake to stay hydrated throughout the heatwave. Farmers have been urged to plan wheat harvesting the weather conditions and to implement measures to safeguard livestock from the extreme heat.

In Karachi, temperatures are forecasted to surpass 38 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday, accompanied by hot, dry weather and relatively strong winds. By Sunday, temperatures may climb further to approximately 39 degrees Celsius.

Despite the rising heat, sea breezes are expected to remain active in the coastal city, although occasional westerly winds might occur. Notably, the PMD does not anticipate heatwave conditions in Karachi during this period.
