A fire broke out at a departmental store in Karachi’s Zamzama area, triggering an immediate emergency response as authorities rushed to control the blaze. Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed that firefighting operations were actively underway, although dense smoke was complicating rescue efforts.
Despite these difficult conditions, emergency personnel successfully evacuated all occupants from the building without any injuries. The mayor stated that approximately 24 to 25 individuals were inside the premises when the fire started, and all were safely escorted out. Officials later verified that no one remained trapped inside the structure.
Rescue teams continue working to fully extinguish the fire and clear the site. Authorities have announced that once the situation is stabilized, a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the fire’s origin. Mayor Wahab emphasized that city officials are maintaining close coordination with relevant departments to manage the emergency and safeguard public safety.
In a related incident, about a week ago, another fire broke out at Gul Plaza in Karachi. This occurred nearly two months after a devastating blaze at the same location claimed over 70 lives. The recent fire reportedly began in the basement and was largely contained, with around 70 percent of the flames extinguished.
Multiple fire tenders and emergency teams were deployed to control the Gul Plaza fire, while rescue officials investigated its cause. Acting Deputy Commissioner South, Amir Fazal Owaisi, suggested the fire may have been ignited by drug-addicted individuals who had entered the building to steal materials such as wiring. Several suspects were found at the scene, and police arrested three individuals. Investigations into the exact cause remain ongoing.
