Cardi B Wins Lawsuit Over ‘Enough (Miami)’ Copyright Claims

Cardi B has achieved a significant legal triumph after a US federal judge dismissed a lawsuit accusing her of copying beats for her 2024 single, Enough (Miami). The suit was filed by production duo Kemika 1956, who alleged that the rapper’s track borrowed elements from their 2021 song Greasy Frybread, which was featured in the FX series Reservation Dogs.

The plaintiffs initially claimed copyright infringement and later expanded their accusations to include defamation. However, the court found these claims insufficient to proceed.

In a decisive ruling, US District Judge Fernando Rodriguez dismissed the case on multiple grounds, including lack of jurisdiction. The plaintiffs had argued that Texas law applied because Cardi B performed in the state during her tour. The judge rejected this, stating that her Texas appearances were part of a larger tour and did not establish proper legal jurisdiction.

Moreover, even if jurisdiction had been valid, the judge concluded that the claims themselves lacked merit. The ruling emphasized that permitting the plaintiffs to amend their complaint further would be futile, effectively ending the litigation.

The lawsuit had encountered difficulties earlier, as Cardi B’s legal team pointed out that the original track cited by the plaintiffs was not registered for copyright when the complaint was filed. Although the producers later obtained copyright registration in 2025, the court still found their case inadequate to move forward.

Cardi B’s attorney praised the decision, highlighting that the ruling reflected a thorough and careful review of the facts.

This victory adds to Cardi B’s growing record of courtroom successes. The Grammy-winning artist has recently defended herself successfully in various legal battles, including cases involving assault and defamation.

Meanwhile, Enough (Miami), her first solo release in several years, has enjoyed commercial success, accumulating tens of millions of views and securing a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

With this latest dismissal, the lawsuit against Cardi B is conclusively closed, reinforcing her reputation for prevailing in high-profile legal disputes while maintaining her strong presence in the music industry.
