Pakistan Launches Gabd Border Terminal to Boost Trade with Iran

Pakistan has officially opened the Gabd Border Terminal, establishing a new transit corridor with Iran. This development marks a strategic shift in Pakistan’s trade logistics by providing an alternative route that bypasses Afghanistan. The corridor is expected to facilitate smoother and more secure trade flows between the two neighboring countries.

Historically, Pakistan’s trade with Iran and other regions relied heavily on routes passing through Afghanistan, which have often been disrupted due to security and political challenges. The Gabd Border Terminal aims to mitigate these risks by offering a direct and controlled border crossing point. This move is significant for enhancing regional connectivity and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.

In a broader context, the operationalisation of this corridor could strengthen bilateral relations and open new avenues for trade diversification. It also aligns with Pakistan’s efforts to improve infrastructure and reduce logistical bottlenecks in its trade network. The corridor is expected to boost economic activity in border regions and contribute to regional stability through increased cross-border collaboration.
