Iran Expresses Gratitude to Pakistan for Support Amid US-Israel Hostilities

In a significant diplomatic gesture, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi extended his sincere appreciation to both the government and the people of Pakistan for their unwavering support amid the escalating aggression by the United States and Israel. This expression of gratitude came as tensions in the Middle East continue to intensify, with Iran facing increasing military pressure from these two nations. Araghchi’s message, shared in Urdu on the social media platform X, underscored Iran’s steadfast commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity despite the ongoing hostilities.

Araghchi emphasized that the Islamic Republic remains resolute, placing its complete trust in divine guidance during these challenging times. He described the current period as “blessed, divine and spiritual,” highlighting the nation’s determination to stand firm against external threats. The Iranian foreign minister’s statement reflected a broader narrative of resilience, portraying Iran as a country prepared to defend its national interests with unwavering resolve.

Further elaborating on the significance of Pakistan’s support, Araghchi acknowledged the strong solidarity demonstrated by Islamabad and its citizens. This backing, he noted, sends a powerful message of regional unity against the ongoing acts of aggression perpetrated by the United States and Israel. The gesture from Pakistan is particularly meaningful given the complex geopolitical dynamics in the region, where alliances and rivalries often shape the course of conflicts and diplomacy.

The backdrop to this diplomatic exchange is the recent surge in hostilities that began on February 28, when the US and Israel launched coordinated attacks targeting Iranian interests. In retaliation, Tehran responded with missile and drone strikes aimed at US military bases throughout the Gulf region, including facilities in Saudi Arabia. This tit-for-tat escalation has heightened fears of a broader regional conflict, disrupting stability and impacting global energy markets.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has sought to play a mediating role amid these tensions. Earlier this month, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi addressed the Senate, outlining Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, a stance that aligns with Islamabad’s broader commitment to regional peace and stability.

Qureshi revealed that indirect talks between the US and Iran have taken place, with Iran agreeing to refrain from developing nuclear weapons. However, the United States continues to demand the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program, a position that remains a significant sticking point in negotiations. During a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Qureshi conveyed Tehran’s perspective and Pakistan’s endorsement of Iran’s peaceful nuclear ambitions. He also made it clear that while Pakistan stands firmly with Iran, it is determined to avoid being drawn into an expanded regional conflict.

As the conflict rages on, the repercussions are being felt far beyond the Middle East. The ongoing US-Israeli campaign against Iran has unsettled global energy markets, given the strategic importance of the Gulf region. Former US President Donald Trump recently asserted that countries heavily dependent on Gulf oil bear a responsibility to safeguard the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint through which approximately 20% of the world’s energy supplies transit. Despite these calls for a coalition to secure the strait, key allies such as Japan and Australia have declined to deploy naval forces to escort vessels through this vital waterway, signaling reluctance to become involved in the conflict.

Adding to the tension, explosions were reported in Tehran on Monday, coinciding with Israel’s announcement of large-scale overnight airstrikes. Witnesses and journalists in the Iranian capital described hearing blasts and observing the activation of air defense systems. The precise targets of these attacks remain unclear, but the incidents underscore the fragile security situation and the potential for further escalation.

In summary, the ongoing conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel continues to pose serious challenges to regional stability. Pakistan’s role as a supporter of Iran’s sovereignty and a potential mediator highlights Islamabad’s strategic balancing act in a volatile environment. As diplomatic efforts persist alongside military confrontations, the international community watches closely, hopeful for a resolution that can prevent further deterioration of peace in the Middle East.
