Pakistan Receives Over 176,000 Tonnes of Fuel Amid Middle East Tensions

Karachi has recently witnessed the arrival of four significant oil cargo vessels, collectively carrying upwards of 176,000 metric tonnes of fuel. This development comes as part of the Pakistani government’s proactive measures to maintain steady fuel supplies amid the ongoing geopolitical turmoil triggered by the US and Israel’s military actions against Iran. The volatile situation in the Middle East has raised concerns about potential disruptions to energy imports, prompting swift government intervention.

In response to these challenges, the Finance Division has been actively coordinating efforts to prevent any interruptions in the availability of petrol and diesel throughout the country. To oversee this critical task, a special committee was established under the direct guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This committee is tasked with continuously monitoring fuel prices and supply levels to ensure market stability. It is scheduled to convene again today to assess the current situation and implement any necessary measures to safeguard the fuel supply chain.

Recent reports indicate that several fuel tankers have successfully docked at Port Qasim in Karachi, alleviating fears of an imminent shortage during this period of heightened tension in the Middle East. On Monday, the tanker MT Nave Atropos arrived carrying a substantial load of 50,000 metric tonnes of petrol, marking a significant boost to the country’s fuel reserves. Shortly thereafter, the MT Torm Dominia berthed at the FOTCO Oil Terminal, delivering 37,000 metric tonnes of diesel, further strengthening the supply position.

Adding to this, the MT Sapphire 2, loaded with 55,000 metric tonnes of petrol, is expected to dock at Port Qasim today, while the MT Seaclipper is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, bringing an additional 34,000 metric tonnes of petrol. Notably, one of these vessels originated from Fujairah, a key fuel distribution hub in the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the strategic sourcing of fuel from regional centers to meet Pakistan’s energy demands.

Looking ahead, more oil tankers are anticipated to reach Pakistani ports in the coming days, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability across the nation. These efforts are crucial not only for stabilizing the domestic market but also for mitigating the impact of external geopolitical shocks on Pakistan’s energy security. The government’s vigilant approach aims to shield consumers and industries alike from potential price volatility and supply shortages during this uncertain period.
