In a significant counterterrorism operation carried out on Sunday, the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully eliminated four terrorists in the Dera Ghazi Khan district. The operation took place near Jotar village, a known hotspot for militant activity, following actionable intelligence about the presence of a terrorist group planning attacks on law enforcement and key institutions.

The CTD launched the raid based on information that a faction of Fitna al-Khawarij, consisting of approximately 15 militants, was preparing to carry out violent assaults targeting police personnel and other government facilities. As the security forces approached the location, the terrorists opened fire, prompting the CTD team to respond with return fire. This intense exchange of gunfire resulted in the deaths of four militants, while the remaining eleven managed to flee the scene amid the chaos.

Authorities recovered a cache of weapons and explosives from the site, including rifles, ammunition, and other materials that could have been used in future attacks. The CTD spokesperson confirmed that the identification process of the deceased militants is currently underway to ascertain their identities and affiliations. Meanwhile, a comprehensive search operation has been launched to track down and apprehend those who escaped during the encounter.

This operation underscores the ongoing commitment of the Punjab CTD to maintaining security and stability in the province by dismantling terrorist networks. The department has reiterated its resolve to eradicate terrorism and protect citizens from such threats. In light of this, the CTD has urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or information related to terrorism to the authorities.

The incident highlights the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating militancy in regions like Dera Ghazi Khan, which have been vulnerable to extremist elements. The swift and decisive action by the CTD not only prevented potential attacks but also sent a strong message to terrorist groups operating within Punjab. Continued intelligence-driven operations remain crucial in safeguarding the province from the scourge of terrorism.
