Islamabad Traffic Alert: Major Road Closures and Diversions in Red Zone on March 6, 2026

On March 6, 2026, the Islamabad Capital Territory police have implemented significant traffic restrictions within the city’s sensitive Red Zone. These measures are part of a comprehensive plan to facilitate smooth traffic flow and bolster security during scheduled events in the area. Authorities have confirmed that only Margalla Road and routes leading directly to the Marriott Hotel will remain accessible for vehicles entering the Red Zone, while all other entry points will be temporarily sealed off to the public.

Among the key road closures, Fazal Haq Road will be shut from Kalsoom Plaza extending towards China Chowk. Motorists who normally use this route are advised to divert their travel via Jinnah Avenue, which will serve as the primary alternative corridor. This adjustment is expected to ease congestion and maintain orderly movement in the vicinity.

Additionally, traffic on Luqman Hakim Road heading towards Polyclinic from Lal Quarter Chowk will encounter diversions. In response, drivers are encouraged to utilize President Road as a substitute route to bypass the affected stretch. This rerouting aims to minimize delays and prevent bottlenecks during peak hours.

For commuters traveling between sectors G-6 and F-6, the recommended detours include using the China Chowk underpass or Seventh Avenue to connect with Jinnah Avenue. These alternative pathways have been designated to facilitate uninterrupted travel despite the closures in the core Red Zone area.

Traffic flow from Abpara Chowk to Serena Hotel via Suhrawardy Road will also be redirected. Vehicles originating from Club Road should follow a new route through Kashmir Chowk, proceeding along Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road. Similarly, drivers coming from Bhara Kahu are advised to take the Kashmir Chowk route via Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road to reach their destinations without hindrance.

Authorities have strongly urged all commuters to plan their journeys well in advance and allocate additional travel time to accommodate these temporary changes. The Islamabad police have announced that strict traffic monitoring and control will be enforced throughout the Red Zone and its surrounding areas. Officers will be stationed at critical intersections to manage traffic flow and prevent congestion, ensuring that disruptions are kept to a minimum.

Security personnel will also be deployed at every entry point to maintain order and safeguard the area during these closures. Motorists are advised to avoid restricted roads unless absolutely necessary to reduce traffic pressure and enhance overall safety. These precautionary measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to maintaining public safety and efficient transportation during important events in the capital.
