Finance Ministry Assesses Fuel Supply Stability Amid Rising Regional Uncertainties

ISLAMABAD: In response to escalating regional tensions impacting global energy markets, the Finance Ministry convened a high-level meeting to evaluate the current status of Pakistan’s petroleum supplies. The session was presided over by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, who emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability for the country’s economic stability and daily life.

During the discussion, officials reassured that Pakistan’s reserves of key petroleum products, including petrol and diesel, remain at satisfactory levels. They highlighted that there is no immediate risk of shortages despite the volatile international environment. This assessment comes as many countries face supply chain disruptions and price surges due to geopolitical pressures in the region.

Minister Aurangzeb addressed the unpredictable nature of global oil markets, noting that fluctuations in prices and supply have become more frequent and severe. To counter these challenges, the government is actively exploring alternative sources of energy imports to diversify supply channels and reduce dependency on any single market. This strategic approach aims to shield Pakistan’s economy from external shocks and maintain a consistent fuel flow.

In addition to supply concerns, the Finance Minister announced a crackdown on illegal activities such as hoarding and smuggling of petroleum products. He instructed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and provincial enforcement agencies to intensify their surveillance and regulatory measures. These efforts are intended to stabilize market prices and prevent artificial shortages that could exacerbate public hardship.

Furthermore, the meeting included a comprehensive review of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply chains, which are critical for both industrial and domestic consumption. The committee tasked with this review is expected to finalize its recommendations and present them to the Prime Minister by tomorrow, outlining steps to enhance energy security and market resilience.

Minister Aurangzeb concluded the session by reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s energy needs. He assured that all necessary measures would be taken to maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies, stressing that the welfare of the public and the stability of the economy remain top priorities amid these challenging times.
