Rockstar Removes GTA 6 from PlayStation Store Following Unexpected Leak

The excitement surrounding the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI took a sudden turn when Rockstar Games decided to remove new listings from the PlayStation Store shortly after sensitive information was unintentionally exposed. This unexpected development came to light when vigilant dataminers uncovered backend title IDs linked to the upcoming game, triggering a wave of speculation across the gaming community.

Last week, a prominent dataminer known as PlayStationSize revealed that Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, had quietly added two distinct title IDs related to GTA VI within the PlayStation Store’s backend system. These identifiers, labeled PPSA01547_00 and PPSA29660_00, were detected through meticulous tracking of the store’s updates, a method commonly employed by dataminers to spot new releases or updates before official announcements. This discovery immediately set off rumors among fans eager to learn more about the game’s launch details.

Among the various theories circulating, some gamers speculated that the two separate IDs might correspond to different editions of the game, such as a standard version and a deluxe or collector’s edition. Others suggested that the update could be linked to the imminent opening of pre-orders, hinting that Rockstar might be preparing for an official sales campaign. However, these conjectures were quickly addressed and dismissed by both the dataminer and an insider developer from PlayStation, who clarified that the IDs did not indicate multiple versions of the game.

Following the rapid spread of this information within the gaming community, another leaker, known by the handle @yAmethxst, reported that Rockstar had removed the two title IDs from the PlayStation Store’s backend. This action appears to be a deliberate effort by the company to curb any potential misuse of the leaked data. It was revealed that a small group of gamers had already exploited the leak to add GTA VI to their PlayStation profiles, creating the illusion that they owned or had played the unreleased title. In response, Rockstar’s removal of the IDs effectively erased the game from these profiles, although no punitive measures were taken against the users involved.

This incident highlights the challenges game developers face in maintaining secrecy around major releases in an era where digital storefronts and backend systems are closely monitored by dataminers and enthusiasts. Rockstar’s swift response underscores the company’s commitment to controlling the narrative and ensuring that official announcements are made on their own terms. As anticipation for GTA VI continues to build, fans will undoubtedly be watching closely for any further updates or official statements from Rockstar Games.
