ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed on Tuesday the critical need to halt the increasing terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) at all costs, as the province continues to face attacks targeting security and law enforcement personnel. His remarks came during a meeting with the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Engineer Amir Muqam, where issues related to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were discussed.

Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by the people of KP in combating terrorism and expressed his commitment to ensuring the province’s development aligns with other parts of the country. “We want Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to develop like other parts of the country,” he affirmed.

During the meeting, the federal minister provided updates on ongoing matters and progress in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The prime minister reiterated that public welfare, development, and the provision of basic facilities remain top priorities for the government in these regions.

The discussion comes amid a recent surge in terrorist incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On Wednesday, four police personnel were injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on a police checkpoint in Kohat. The previous day, four Customs officials were killed in an attack near Qureshi Mor Abhaya Bridge within the jurisdiction of Gomel University Police Station in Dera Ismail Khan district. Additionally, terrorists targeted a traffic police vehicle near Mufti Mahmood Chowk in Dera Police Station limits, resulting in the death of constable driver Muhammad Habib.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s call to action underscores the government’s resolve to combat terrorism and promote stability and development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighboring regions.
