Four police officers sustained injuries after unidentified assailants opened fire on a police checkpost in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday. The attackers targeted the Shadi Pur checkpost before fleeing the scene following a return of fire by the officers.

The injured personnel were promptly taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, police secured the area and initiated a search operation to apprehend the attackers.

This incident is part of a recent surge in attacks targeting security and law enforcement officials across KP. Just a day earlier, four Customs officials were killed in an assault near Qureshi Mor and Abhaiya Bridge within the Gomal University Police Station jurisdiction in Dera Ismail Khan.

In another attack in Dera Ismail Khan, a traffic police mobile unit was ambushed near Mufti Mahmood Chowk under the Dera Town Police Station. Constable and driver Muhammad Habib was killed, and Head Constable Subhan Khan suffered serious injuries. This marked the second attack on a traffic police unit in KP within ten days.

On September 28, three traffic police personnel were killed and two civilians injured when gunmen on a motorcycle fired at a traffic police vehicle in Wazirabad, Tank district. The attackers also seized the weapons of the slain officers before escaping.

The recent wave of violence follows several deadly incidents in the province. On September 27, an attack in Lakki Marwat resulted in three deaths and three injuries. A day earlier, a suspected suicide bombing and subsequent firing at a checkpost in Dera Ismail Khan left 12 dead and 35 wounded. Earlier in the month, on September 18, an attack during Friday prayers at the Old Police Lines in Kohat claimed 21 lives and injured over 100 people.

Authorities continue to investigate these incidents as security forces remain on high alert across the region.
