In Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) personnel and a police constable lost their lives in separate shooting incidents, while another officer sustained injuries, police confirmed on Tuesday.

District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed stated that armed assailants opened fire near Abhaya Bridge, resulting in the deaths of the FBR personnel. Their bodies were subsequently transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital for further procedures.

Meanwhile, a police van came under attack near Bannu Road, where a constable was killed and another injured. Following this assault, authorities launched a search operation in the vicinity to apprehend the attackers.

These incidents come amid a significant surge in cross-border terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban regained control in 2021.

In a related development earlier the same day, five militants, described as India-backed, were killed and two others wounded during an operation targeting insurgent hideouts in North Waziristan district of KP.

Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), an independent Islamabad-based think tank monitoring anti-state violence, revealed that September 2026 saw the highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years. A total of 225 attacks were recorded nationwide, marking a 13% increase from 199 attacks in August. This rise represents the third consecutive month of escalating militant violence across the country.
