Security forces eliminated eight terrorists linked to India during a targeted intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The operation was launched following intelligence reports confirming the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij militants in the region.

Among those killed were three senior commanders of the Fitna al-Khawarij group. Authorities also seized a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and foreign currency from the deceased militants.

This operation took place a day after security personnel killed 11 militants in separate actions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s South Waziristan and Balochistan’s Gorindar-Mashkel area. These efforts are part of ongoing campaigns targeting militant groups in both provinces.

Since the Afghan Taliban’s return to power in 2021, Pakistan has experienced a notable surge in cross-border terrorist activities, especially in KP and Balochistan. September 2026 marked the highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years, with 225 incidents recorded nationwide, a 13% increase from August’s 199 attacks, data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).

Islamabad has consistently urged Kabul to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. However, Pakistan asserts that the Afghan Taliban have not taken sufficient measures against these groups, a claim Kabul disputes. Despite multiple rounds of dialogue, the two sides have yet to resolve this critical issue, which remains a significant source of tension in their bilateral relations.
