The Government of Pakistan, working closely with the Pakistan Armed Forces, has successfully orchestrated the safe return of a significant number of Pakistani students and citizens from Iran amid recent security concerns and attacks in the region. Over the course of two days, from March 1 to March 2, a total of 183 students made their way back into Pakistan through the Torkham and Taftan border crossings, marking a critical effort to ensure the welfare of Pakistani nationals abroad during a period of heightened instability.
On March 2 alone, authorities facilitated the safe transportation of 62 students, including 42 men and 20 women, to Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province. In addition to this group, another 121 students—comprising 41 men and 80 women—were also repatriated on the same day. This large-scale evacuation highlights the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens and students studying overseas, particularly in volatile environments.
The returning students hail from various provinces across Pakistan, reflecting the diverse makeup of those pursuing education in Iran. Among them, 132 students were from Punjab, the country’s most populous province, followed by 22 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15 from Sindh, 10 from Gilgit-Baltistan, 3 from Azad Kashmir, and 1 from Balochistan. These students had been enrolled in several prestigious Iranian institutions, including Tehran Medical College, Isfahan Medical College, Zanjan Medical College, and Yazd Medical College, where many had been pursuing degrees in medicine and related fields.
Families of the evacuated students have expressed deep appreciation for the swift and efficient response of the Pakistani government and armed forces. Their timely intervention ensured that hundreds of young Pakistanis were brought back safely from a potentially dangerous situation, alleviating the concerns of anxious relatives and communities across the country. This operation underscores the importance of coordinated diplomatic and military efforts in safeguarding citizens abroad during times of crisis.
Meanwhile, in response to the evolving geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi has taken proactive steps to support Pakistani nationals residing in the United Arab Emirates. The embassy has launched a 24-hour emergency helpline to provide immediate assistance to Pakistanis living in the UAE, urging them to maintain close communication with diplomatic officials and to use the helpline if they encounter any difficulties or emergencies.
In addition to the helpline, the embassy has issued multiple emergency contact numbers to ensure that Pakistani nationals across the UAE can easily reach out for help. Similarly, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai has also disseminated emergency contact information and encouraged the Pakistani community to promptly contact consular officials if they require any form of support. These measures reflect the embassy’s commitment to the safety and well-being of Pakistanis abroad amid uncertain regional dynamics.
Furthermore, the embassy has requested that Pakistani citizens currently stranded in transit at various airports due to the ongoing situation provide their details by filling out a designated form. This initiative aims to enable the embassy to coordinate with airlines and relevant authorities to facilitate assistance and smooth travel arrangements. It is important to note that Pakistanis residing permanently in the UAE are not required to fill out this emergency form but are instead asked to complete a general survey designed to help diplomatic missions better understand the community’s needs.
Officials emphasized that the information gathered through these efforts will be crucial in assessing the evolving situation and ensuring that Pakistani nationals receive timely and effective support if circumstances worsen. As regional tensions continue to unfold, the Pakistani government remains vigilant and committed to protecting its citizens both at home and abroad.
