Authorities in Lahore have apprehended a second suspect from Chishtian in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an Azerbaijani woman, while the search for a third suspect remains ongoing. The individual was transported to Lahore for further interrogation as police continue their investigation.
Both arrested suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, with law enforcement intensifying efforts to locate the third accused. This development follows an incident that occurred three days ago in Lahore’s Defence area, where the woman was reportedly assaulted by three men.
Earlier, police had detained a man named Mohsin, identified as a primary suspect, in Lahore. Additionally, two other individuals were held on suspicion of facilitating the assault and are currently undergoing questioning.
The incident reportedly took place late Friday night into Saturday after the Azerbaijani woman was accompanied to a café by two local women. At the café, the women introduced three male acquaintances to the victim. It is alleged that the woman was given a substance believed to be drugged before the assault occurred. Following the attack, the suspects abandoned the woman near the airport and fled the scene.
In a significant development, a medical report released on Monday confirmed findings consistent with sexual assault. Investigators also recovered a vehicle thought to have been used during the incident from the residence of a relative of one of the suspects, who has since absconded.
Authorities have placed the suspects’ names on a stop list to prevent their escape and plan to record the victim’s statement once she is medically able. Notably, the woman is reported to understand and speak Urdu.
Police revealed that the Azerbaijani woman had visited Lahore multiple times and was in the city for her clothing business. She frequently traveled between Lahore and Faisalabad for professional reasons.
