In a deadly assault in Tank’s Wazirabad Bazaar, three traffic police personnel lost their lives when armed assailants opened fire on their mobile vehicle, District Police Officer Abdul Samad Khan confirmed on Monday. Assistant Sub-Inspector Ismatullah sustained injuries during the attack and was promptly admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical care.
Two civilians passing by were also wounded in the incident. Following the attack, the assailants escaped after seizing the traffic police mobile vehicle, which authorities later recovered from Gara Budha. Security forces have since sealed off highways and pedestrian routes in the vicinity as a manhunt for the suspects continues.
In a significant development, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of the three officers. He extended condolences to the families of the fallen personnel, emphasizing the nation’s respect for their sacrifice. Naqvi assured that the government stands firmly with the bereaved families and vowed that the sacrifices made in combating terrorism would not be forgotten.
This attack in Tank follows a series of violent incidents targeting law enforcement and civilians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Just two days prior, a suicide bomber struck an anti-smuggling checkpoint in Darazanda, Dera Ismail Khan, killing at least 13 people, including two women and a two-year-old child. The casualties comprised Customs, Excise, Rescue officials, and civilians, with around 35 others injured, the Regional Police Officer.
Last week, a blast inside a mosque at Kohat’s old Police Lines during Friday prayers resulted in 22 deaths, including 16 police officers, and left 103 injured. Following the explosion, police and security forces conducted an overnight clearance operation, killing eight militants, the Central Police Office.
