Three traffic police officers lost their lives after unknown assailants opened fire on their vehicle in the Wazirabad area of Tank district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday. The attackers, who were on a motorcycle, escaped immediately following the shooting.
Authorities dispatched a substantial police force to the scene to secure the area and begin investigations into the incident. Efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators are ongoing.
In a significant development, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the militant attack targeting the traffic police vehicle. He expressed profound grief over the deaths of the three officers and extended heartfelt condolences to their families. Naqvi emphasized that the nation honors the sacrifices of these officers and assured that the government stands firmly with the bereaved families during this difficult period. He also vowed that the sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism would not be in vain.
Meanwhile, the region has witnessed a series of violent incidents recently. On Saturday, an attack near the Aman Mela checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan district resulted in at least 12 fatalities and over 30 injuries. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for that assault. Additionally, on September 18, a deadly attack during Friday prayers at the old Police Lines in Kohat caused 21 deaths and left more than 100 injured.
The investigation into the Tank attack is ongoing as authorities work to bring the culprits to justice.
