The incident reportedly escalated after Goldsmith did not respond in time to a notice sent by the Metropolitan Police. The letter requested information regarding the identity of the driver at the time of the speeding violation, but she failed to provide these details within the designated timeframe. As a result, the court imposed not only the fine but also additional costs amounting to £530, which cover administrative and legal expenses related to the case.
Moreover, the court has added six penalty points to Goldsmith’s driving licence, a significant repercussion that could affect her future driving privileges in the UK. In her defense, Jemima Goldsmith explained that her home was undergoing renovation work during the period when the police notice was issued. Upon finally receiving the communication, she promptly submitted the required documentation to the authorities.
Goldsmith further clarified that the vehicle involved in the speeding incident was being driven by the builder at the time, not by herself. Despite this, she was held accountable under UK law, which often places responsibility on the registered owner of the vehicle unless the driver’s identity is disclosed promptly. Acknowledging this oversight, she accepted the court’s decision and agreed to pay the imposed fine.
