At least three individuals lost their lives and three others were wounded when armed assailants attacked a group of villagers in Lakki Marwat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The incident occurred near Abdul Khel, within the jurisdiction of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan Police Station in Dara Pezu.
Reports indicate the victims were returning to their village, Abdul Khel, from Shah Hassan Khel when the gunmen opened fire. Three people died instantly, while three sustained injuries. The deceased have been identified as Umair, Sadiq Amin, and Ailiyan. Those injured include Imdadullah, Asifullah, and Ijaz Khan.
Following the shooting, the attackers fled the scene. The victims were promptly transported to the government city hospital, where the injured received medical care.
A local resident noted that many villagers, predominantly young men, had attended a cricket match in Shah Hassan Khel. They were traveling back to Abdul Khel in a rickshaw when the attack took place.
Authorities have initiated an investigation based on the initial details gathered. This attack is part of a recent surge in violence across the province.
In a related development, just one day prior, 12 people were killed and 35 injured during a suspected suicide bombing and subsequent gunfire at a checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan. Earlier, on September 18, an assault during Friday prayers at the old Police Lines in Kohat resulted in 21 fatalities and over 100 injuries.
