ISLAMABAD: On Monday, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman declared that his party would endorse a no-confidence motion against the government if such a motion were introduced. He cautioned that the ruling coalition would lose its majority status should the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) withdraw its backing.
Speaking at a press conference, Maulana Fazl clarified that the opposition is currently not in a position to present a no-confidence motion, and no plans for such action exist at this time. Nonetheless, he emphasized that the government cannot be formed or maintained without the support of JUI-F.
He urged for an in-camera session at Parliament House to inform the public about the nation’s circumstances, criticizing closed-door meetings among parliamentary leaders as ineffective. “The nation remains uninformed about the full situation,” he remarked, adding that issues should be addressed openly in parliament while those in power remain silent.
Maulana Fazl highlighted the government’s lack of control in two provinces, pointing to rampant street crime in Sindh and daylight bank robberies in Balochistan. “There is no system capable of safeguarding banks or citizens,” he stated.
He disclosed that JUI-F senator Abdul Shakoor Khan was stopped at the airport the previous day and prevented from traveling to China. Additionally, he mentioned that ministers in his province are being halted on roads. “When certain parties announced protests, Islamabad was barricaded with containers,” he added.
Addressing the economic situation, Maulana Fazl noted the country faces mounting debt pressures, soaring inflation, and widespread public hardship without any solutions. “The nation is in grave danger — we are sitting on a powder keg,” he warned, emphasizing that parliamentary governance is being obstructed from stabilizing.
The senior politician reaffirmed JUI-F’s consistent advocacy for provincial rights, underscoring that the resources of provinces belong to their people. He asserted that the party will continue to champion provincial rights through constitutional channels.
