Karachi Sees Multiple Road Closures Amid Heightened Security Over Protests on Khamenei’s Death

In response to escalating protests following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, authorities in Karachi have imposed strict security measures, including the closure of several vital roads and access points across the city. These steps aim to prevent further violence and maintain order as tensions remain high among demonstrators expressing their grief and anger.

Security forces have completely sealed off all routes leading to the American Consulate, a focal point of recent unrest. This move comes after violent confrontations erupted near the consulate, where protestors attempted to breach the premises, forcing law enforcement agencies to intervene decisively. To reinforce these restrictions, large containers have been strategically placed at key junctions such as PIDC Chowk, effectively blocking the road towards MT Khan Road and Sultanabad, as well as the route from PIDC Chowk to Ziauddin Road, which leads to the Chief Minister’s House.

Furthermore, the traffic police have confirmed the closure of the road connecting Tower to Mai Kolachi, along with the route from Board Bazar to Mai Kolachi. These closures have disrupted normal traffic flow, prompting officials to advise motorists to use alternative paths and stay updated through official channels for real-time traffic information. The authorities are working to ensure that essential services and emergency vehicles can still navigate the city despite these restrictions.

The recent wave of protests turned violent when demonstrators clashed with police and paramilitary Rangers near the US Consulate. The unrest resulted in tragic consequences, with at least nine people losing their lives and numerous others sustaining injuries, hospital and police sources. The demonstrators’ attempt to storm sensitive diplomatic sites escalated the situation, compelling security forces to take strong measures to disperse the crowd and restore calm.

These developments highlight the volatile atmosphere in Karachi as political and religious sentiments intertwine, leading to heightened security concerns. The authorities remain on high alert, closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of both citizens and diplomatic missions. Meanwhile, residents are urged to remain cautious and comply with traffic advisories until the situation stabilizes.
