In response to escalating protests triggered by the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, authorities in Karachi have imposed extensive road closures across several major routes. The city’s administration has also significantly increased security measures to manage the unrest and prevent further violence. These developments come amid growing tensions as demonstrators express their grievances, leading to confrontations with law enforcement agencies.

Among the most notable security actions, all access points leading to the American Consulate in Karachi have been completely sealed off. This precautionary measure aims to safeguard the diplomatic mission from potential threats, following reports of demonstrators attempting to breach the consulate premises. To reinforce these restrictions, large containers have been strategically placed at key junctions, including PIDC Chowk, effectively blocking the road from PIDC Chowk to MT Khan Road towards Sultanabad. This move restricts movement in critical areas surrounding the consulate and other sensitive locations.

Additional barriers have been installed on the route connecting PIDC Chowk to Ziauddin Road, which leads directly to the Chief Minister’s House. This closure is part of a broader effort to secure government buildings and maintain public order amid the ongoing protests. Furthermore, the roads from Tower to Mai Kolachi and from Board Basin to Mai Kolachi have also been shut down, as confirmed by the city’s traffic police. These closures are causing significant disruptions in daily traffic flow, prompting authorities to advise motorists to plan alternative routes and stay updated through official traffic advisories.

The decision to close these vital arteries follows a series of violent clashes between protesters and security forces near the US Consulate. The confrontations escalated quickly, resulting in tragic casualties. Hospital and police that at least nine individuals lost their lives, with many others sustaining injuries during the turmoil. The unrest began when demonstrators attempted to storm the consulate and other high-security zones, forcing police and Rangers to intervene with force to disperse the aggressive crowds.

These incidents highlight the volatile atmosphere in Karachi as political and religious sentiments run high. The authorities remain on high alert, balancing the need to maintain law and order with the right to peaceful protest. Meanwhile, the public is urged to remain cautious, avoid affected areas, and comply with traffic directives to ensure their safety during this period of heightened tension.
