Karachi is likely to experience light rainfall today despite the continuation of hot and humid weather, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced. Temperatures in the city are expected to rise to a maximum of 40°C, maintaining the sweltering conditions.

The Met Office forecast indicates that over the next 24 hours, the maximum temperature will range between 38°C and 40°C, while the minimum temperature recorded recently was 27.5°C. Humidity levels remain elevated at 75%, intensifying the muggy atmosphere, with calm winds prevailing across the metropolis.

In a significant development, a weather analyst noted that thunderstorm clouds might form over Karachi’s suburban areas after midday. This could bring gusty winds and rainfall to several localities including M-9, DHA, Gadap, and Dumba Goth. Similar weather conditions are anticipated in Scheme 33, Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Port Qasim, and Steel Town.

The analyst further mentioned that other parts of Karachi have a 45% to 60% chance of experiencing light to moderate rain. However, severe rainfall is not expected at this time. The intense heat may trigger localized cloud formation, contributing to the possibility of scattered showers.

Earlier, the weather department reported that a monsoon low-pressure system, which developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Odisha coast, has shifted westward to South Chhattisgarh and nearby areas. This system is forecast to move further west, bringing rain and thunderstorms to various parts of Sindh province until September 16.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an advisory a day earlier, urging relevant agencies to take precautionary measures and stay alert during the anticipated weather conditions.
