At least four miners lost their lives and two others sustained injuries following a methane gas explosion in a coal mine located in the Shahrag area of Harnai district, Balochistan. The incident was confirmed on Sunday by the Chief Mines Inspector, Atif Ali, who explained that the explosion resulted from the accumulation of methane gas inside the mine.

Rescue teams recovered the bodies of the four deceased miners along with the two injured workers from the affected site. The injured were promptly transferred from Harnai to Quetta to receive medical treatment. During the rescue efforts, two rescue personnel who had become trapped inside the mine were also successfully evacuated without harm.

Chief Mines Inspector Ali further revealed that all four miners who died in the accident were originally from Dir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This tragic event highlights the ongoing risks faced by coal miners in Balochistan and Sindh, where accidents frequently occur due to insufficient safety protocols and poor working conditions.

In a significant development earlier this year, a similar tragedy struck in July when at least 34 miners died in a coal mine collapse in the Sorange area. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that the collapse was caused by a methane gas explosion. At that time, 42 laborers were working inside the mine, all of whom were residents of Shangla district in KP, the mine owner.
