Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi emphasized on Saturday that the judiciary stands united in protecting judges from any external influence. Speaking at a conference in Islamabad, he highlighted recent amendments to the judicial code of conduct aimed at safeguarding judicial independence and boosting public confidence in the justice system.

He described district courts as the cornerstone of the judicial framework, stressing that empowering judges at this level to earn public trust remains a primary goal. Expressing pride in the district judiciary, Afridi acknowledged the challenges faced by judicial officers who continue to fulfill their duties diligently.

The chief justice called upon all institutions to perform their roles effectively and encouraged young judges to strive for excellence in delivering justice. He also noted the importance of enhancing coordination between district courts and high courts to improve judicial efficiency.

In terms of infrastructure development, Afridi outlined initiatives to provide essential amenities such as solar power, internet access, clean water, and e-libraries to district courts, with active support from provincial governments. He specifically mentioned ongoing efforts to equip all tehsils and districts in Balochistan with these facilities.

Afridi, 18 districts in Balochistan have already received solar power, water, and internet services, with the remaining districts expected to be covered within a month. Additionally, a decision has been made to introduce health insurance benefits for judicial officers.

Highlighting financial progress, the chief justice revealed that over Rs3 billion has been allocated this year for judicial improvements, a significant increase compared to the Rs900 million disbursed over two decades under the Access to Justice Programme. He paid homage to judges who have lost their lives in the line of duty, underscoring the critical need to uphold the rule of law in the country.
