Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif participated in significant bilateral discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. These high-level meetings provided an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation among the member states. The SCO, a major Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance, serves as a vital platform for Pakistan to engage with influential regional powers.

During these interactions, PM Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability, economic collaboration, and counterterrorism efforts. The talks with President Xi Jinping likely focused on expanding China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and bilateral trade, while discussions with President Putin may have addressed energy cooperation and geopolitical challenges. Meanwhile, engagement with President Erdogan underscored the importance of fostering stronger ties with Turkey, a key partner in various sectors.

In a significant development, these meetings at the SCO summit highlight Pakistan’s strategic diplomacy aimed at enhancing its regional influence and economic prospects. By engaging with leaders of major powers, PM Shehbaz is positioning Pakistan as an active participant in shaping regional security and economic frameworks. This diplomatic outreach is expected to yield benefits in terms of investment, trade, and collaborative security initiatives, reinforcing Pakistan’s role on the international stage.
