Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to depart for Kyrgyzstan on Monday, August 31, embarking on a three-day official visit. During this trip, he will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting as well as the SCO Plus Summit.
Invited by Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov, the prime minister’s visit will span from August 31 to September 2. Notably, Pakistan is scheduled to assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026-27 term during this period.
In a significant development, PM Shehbaz will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on August 31. Alongside the SCO events, he is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with leaders from various participating countries.
On September 2, the prime minister will hold comprehensive bilateral talks with President Japarov. The agenda includes reviewing the full spectrum of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations and exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and regional connectivity.
Further discussions will focus on expanding collaboration in education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. The leaders are also anticipated to share perspectives on regional and international developments.
The Foreign Office highlighted that Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan share deep-rooted ties grounded in common history, religious connections, and cultural bonds. This visit aims to reinforce these longstanding relations and broaden cooperation across key sectors.
