Prince Harry and Family Return to UK After Six Years in US

Prince Harry and his family arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, marking their return after six years since stepping back from royal duties and relocating to the United States. The move was revealed just days prior, surprising even close family members.

Last week, it was announced that Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, would be moving back from California to a location outside London for an extended period. Their children, Prince Archie, aged 7, and Princess Lilibet, aged 5, are set to begin school in Britain this September. Specific details about their residence or the school they will attend remain confidential.

Notably, the couple will not reside in a royal property nor undertake any official royal responsibilities. They arrived privately from California on Wednesday, with no immediate statements from Harry’s representatives.

Harry and Meghan left the UK in 2020, relinquishing their official royal roles to pursue independent careers. Despite this, they remained in the public eye, with Harry publicly criticizing the royal family, the British press, and the government over security concerns that prevented his return to the UK.

King Charles was informed of their decision to return only days before it was made public. The couple will continue as non-working royals, a status agreed upon with the late Queen Elizabeth. Relations between Harry and his father have improved recently, highlighted by the family’s visit to Britain last month, which allowed Charles to meet his grandchildren for the first time since 2022.

However, Harry’s relationship with his brother, Prince William, remains strained, and tensions persist with other senior royals who are reportedly wary of Meghan. This ongoing discord suggests potential future family conflicts, often played out in the media spotlight.

Harry married Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle in 2018, with hopes that their union would modernize the monarchy. Yet, within two years, they announced their decision to step down from official duties and relocate to the US, citing the intense and negative media scrutiny they faced in Britain.

They settled in Montecito, near Santa Barbara, California, a property they intend to keep. The reasons behind their decision to return to the UK remain unclear, though some analysts suggest their business ventures in the US have faced challenges, and the move could enhance their earning potential.

The announcement of their return coincided closely with a London court ruling that could require Harry to pay millions to the Daily Mail publisher following a failed privacy lawsuit. Meanwhile, Meghan has reportedly been in discussions about resuming her acting career, though no official comments have been made, and reports indicate the opportunity was later withdrawn amid public backlash.

Harry has expressed a desire for his children to spend more time in Britain and to be near their grandfather, King Charles, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment at age 77. A former senior royal aide suggested the move may be motivated by personal reasons rather than strategic ones, emphasizing Harry’s wish to be close to his father during this time.
