In a thrilling Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 encounter at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan delivered a match-winning performance as Antigua and Barbuda Falcons secured a five-wicket victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders. His exceptional bowling figures of 1-8 from four overs set the tone, followed by a blistering unbeaten 52 off just 20 balls, guiding the Falcons to victory with nine balls remaining.
The win propelled the Falcons to the summit of the CPL points table while extending their flawless home record. Chasing a target of 166, the Falcons faced a precarious situation at 92-5 early in the 14th over. However, Shadab took command alongside Kusal Perera, forging an unbeaten partnership of 76 runs from 33 deliveries that turned the match decisively in their favor.
Perera remained unbeaten on 34 from 24 balls, complementing Shadab’s aggressive innings that featured two fours and five towering sixes. The pivotal moment arrived in the 18th over when Shadab dismantled Nathan Edwards’ bowling, smashing three sixes and helping the Falcons amass 27 runs in that over. Edwards’ over also included two dangerous full tosses above waist height, leading to his removal from the attack under playing conditions.
With 11 runs needed off the final two overs, Shadab sealed the victory in style, striking two more sixes off Terrance Hinds, including the winning hit that completed his rapid half-century. The Falcons finished on 168-5 in 18.3 overs, marking their second consecutive home triumph.
Earlier, the Knight Riders had posted 165-6 after a strong start. Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran put the Falcons under early pressure, scoring 46 from 33 balls and 43 off 17 balls respectively. Pooran’s innings included six fours and two sixes, while Munro struck two fours and four sixes.
The Falcons fought back after the powerplay, largely due to Shadab’s disciplined bowling that curtailed the scoring rate. He dismissed Munro and completed his four-over spell conceding just eight runs, maintaining a remarkable economy rate of 2.00 in a high-scoring T20 match. Rahkeem Cornwall and Joshua James also contributed by taking two wickets each, slowing the Knight Riders’ momentum.
During the Falcons’ chase, initial progress was slow, with Rahkeem Cornwall’s quick 14 off six balls followed by a series of wickets. Amir Jangoo’s 31 from 36 balls provided some resistance, but his dismissal left the Falcons struggling at 80-4. Moeen Ali’s fall soon after brought the score to 92-5, demanding a powerful response.
Shadab rose to the occasion, initially steadying the innings with Perera before launching an aggressive assault in the final overs. The Falcons scored 24 runs across the 16th and 17th overs, with Shadab’s onslaught in the 18th over effectively ending the contest. His 52 runs came at an extraordinary strike rate of 260, highlighted by five sixes and two fours.
For his outstanding all-round contribution, Shadab Khan was awarded Player of the Match. The victory secured back-to-back home wins for the Falcons and propelled them to the top of the CPL standings, while the Knight Riders endured their second consecutive defeat.
