At least six individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in an explosion that occurred in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung district, Balochistan, on Friday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rafiq Hamza confirmed the blast took place at an orchard within the locality.
Authorities transferred the victims’ bodies to Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani Hospital for further procedures. A bomb disposal squad was dispatched to the scene to investigate the cause and nature of the explosion. Law enforcement officials promptly arrived at the site and secured the perimeter to prevent further incidents.
In a related development, just days earlier, two people were killed and two others injured when a roadside explosive device detonated in the Wali Tangi area of Hanna Urak, a recreational spot in Quetta. This recent attack adds to the growing number of violent incidents in the region.
Pakistan has experienced an upsurge in terrorist activities, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban assumed power in 2021. A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) highlighted that during the second quarter of 2026, KP and Balochistan remained the primary centers of violence nationwide.
The report revealed that these two provinces accounted for nearly 96% of all fatalities related to violence during this period. Specifically, KP recorded over 61% of the deaths, totaling 475, while Balochistan accounted for 34%, with 265 fatalities. Security forces continue to conduct intelligence-based operations against militants in Balochistan under Operation Rad-ul-Fitna-3 to curb the ongoing threats.
