Early Saturday morning, a tragic accident on Lahore’s Canal Road claimed the lives of five individuals, including two pedestrians, while injuring a child. The crash occurred around 6 a.m. in the Harbanspura area when a speeding car lost control and collided with a tree.
An eyewitness described the vehicle as moving erratically at high speed, swerving in a zigzag pattern before it struck two pedestrians and ultimately crashed into the tree. The three young men inside the car and the two pedestrians died instantly at the scene, while a child traveling in the vehicle sustained injuries.
The families of Abdul Rehman and Muzammil, the pedestrians hit by the car, revealed that the two men had been out for their morning walk. Muhammad Siddiq, father of one of the victims, shared, “One was my son and the other was my student. I received a call informing me about the accident.”
Authorities confirmed that the three young men who died inside the car were from the same family and had taken the vehicle without their family’s knowledge. SSP Traffic City Zone Maqsood Lone attributed the accident to overspeeding, which resulted in the loss of five lives.
This incident underscores the severe risks associated with reckless driving. Officials have urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid such fatal accidents in the future.
Meanwhile, in response to rising traffic violations, Lahore City Traffic Police initiated a crackdown targeting reckless drivers, underage motorists, and those performing dangerous stunts during Independence Day celebrations. Over 3,000 motorcycles ridden by underage drivers and revelers were impounded during the two-day operation.
Five cases were registered against individuals involved in one-wheeling stunts, and another five cases were filed for speeding, dangerous maneuvers, and causing road blockages. Additionally, two cases were lodged against car drifters.
During the Independence Day period, traffic police issued 666 challans for one-way violations and 614 for triple riding. Enforcement also targeted helmetless motorcyclists, with 3,351 challans issued for riding without helmets.
