Rabi-ul-Awwal Moon Not Sighted, Month Starts August 15 in Pakistan

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan, setting the first day of the Islamic month on August 15. The announcement followed a meeting held in Islamabad, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, to examine reports and testimonies from across the country.

The committee confirmed that no credible sightings of the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon had been reported from any region of Pakistan. Consequently, it declared that the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal would be observed on Saturday, August 15. In a significant development, the committee also announced that Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), which falls on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, will be commemorated on Wednesday, August 26.

Attending the meeting were representatives from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and other relevant institutions, along with committee members. Prior to this, both the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the Meteorological Department had predicted a low chance of moon sighting on August 13.

SUPARCO provided detailed observations, noting that the moon would be approximately 20 hours and 53 minutes old at sunset on August 13. It also reported that the interval between sunset and moonset in Pakistan’s coastal areas would be roughly 32 minutes. Based on these calculations, SUPARCO stated that the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon would not be visible to the naked eye or through telescopes on that evening.
