Karachi Police Detain Over 20 Illegal Afghan Nationals in Sohrab Goth Operation

In a significant law enforcement action on Friday night, Karachi police apprehended over 20 Afghan nationals residing without legal documentation in the Sohrab Goth neighborhood. This operation was part of a broader effort to address the presence of undocumented migrants in the city, which has seen increased scrutiny in recent months.

The police launched the operation following direct orders from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, emphasizing the importance of targeting specific areas known for harboring illegal residents. Sohrab Goth, a locality with a considerable population of Afghan nationals, was identified as a key zone for this crackdown. To ensure the operation’s effectiveness, law enforcement officials strategically sealed all entry and exit points to the area, preventing any suspects from fleeing during the search.

During the raid, officers conducted meticulous door-to-door searches, leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to locate individuals living unlawfully. The use of biometric verification devices played a crucial role in confirming the identities of those detained, allowing authorities to distinguish between legal residents and those without proper documentation. This technological aid enhanced the precision of the operation and minimized errors in identification.

The police contingent deployed for this mission was substantial, including both male and female officers, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the search. Female officers were particularly instrumental in conducting searches in households where cultural sensitivities required their presence. The entire operation was overseen by DSP Aurangzeb Khattak, who coordinated the efforts on the ground to ensure smooth execution and adherence to legal protocols.

Following the arrests, the detainees were taken into custody for further questioning and verification. Authorities are currently conducting detailed interrogations to gather more information about the individuals’ backgrounds and the circumstances of their stay in Karachi. This step is crucial for determining the next course of action, including potential deportation or legal proceedings.

This crackdown reflects ongoing challenges faced by Karachi in managing undocumented migration, which has implications for security, social services, and urban planning. The police operation underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws while maintaining public order in one of Pakistan’s largest and most diverse cities.
