The United States has reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s sovereign right to defend itself in response to ongoing attacks attributed to the Afghan Taliban. This endorsement comes amid escalating military confrontations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where Pakistani forces have launched Operation Ghazib lil-Haq to counter Taliban aggression. The operation has intensified in recent days, reflecting the heightened security challenges faced by Pakistan in the border regions.

In a recent communication on the social media platform X, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker conveyed her condolences to Pakistan’s foreign secretary over the casualties sustained during these clashes. She emphasized that Washington is closely monitoring the evolving situation and reiterated its backing of Pakistan’s efforts to protect its territory and citizens against Taliban attacks. This diplomatic outreach underscores the strategic importance the US places on stability in the region, especially given the complex dynamics involving Afghanistan’s militant groups.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar provided updated figures highlighting the impact of the ongoing military campaign. his statements, Pakistani security forces have successfully neutralized 331 Taliban fighters and inflicted injuries on over 500 militants since the operation commenced. Additionally, 104 Taliban strongholds have been destroyed, with 22 posts captured by Pakistani troops, signaling significant tactical gains. These figures illustrate the intensity and scale of the military response aimed at dismantling Taliban infrastructure along the border.

On the ground, the Pakistan Army has taken decisive action to dismantle Taliban positions. Security officials reported the demolition of the Taliban’s Aala Jirga Thana post in the Qila Saifullah sector of Balochistan as a direct retaliation to recent attacks. This operation involved coordinated ground and air strikes that continued through the night, targeting key Taliban installations. The Pakistan Air Force reportedly conducted precision strikes on brigade and battalion headquarters in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, while ground forces captured and destroyed the New Afghan 8 post. Another Taliban facility in the Noshki sector was also demolished, reflecting a comprehensive approach to weakening militant footholds.

In light of the escalating tensions, the US Mission in Pakistan has issued a security advisory urging American citizens residing in the country to remain vigilant. The advisory highlights increased security measures by Pakistani authorities in major urban centers due to potential terrorist threats linked to the ongoing conflict. It specifically warns that law enforcement buildings, military installations, and large commercial areas could be targeted, advising US nationals to exercise heightened caution, particularly during peak hours when such locations are most vulnerable.

On the diplomatic front, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, called for restraint from both Pakistan and Afghanistan, urging the two sides to de-escalate tensions through dialogue. She stressed that Afghan territory must not be used as a base for launching attacks against neighboring countries and called on the de facto Afghan authorities to take action against militant groups operating within their borders. This appeal reflects broader international concerns about regional stability and the potential for conflict spillover.

Adding to the international response, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the rising hostilities between Pakistan and Afghanistan. In a statement shared on X, Tehran called for immediate negotiations to halt the fighting and reduce tensions. Iran emphasized the importance of respecting each nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and offered its readiness to mediate efforts aimed at fostering dialogue and ending the military confrontation. This diplomatic initiative highlights Iran’s interest in promoting peace and stability in its neighborhood amid growing unrest.

As the situation continues to develop, the international community remains watchful of the implications these clashes may have on regional security. Pakistan’s determination to counter Taliban threats is clear, but the calls for dialogue and restraint underscore the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to prevent further escalation. The coming days will be critical in shaping the trajectory of this conflict and its impact on broader geopolitical dynamics in South Asia.
